Sardine is the development version of Maemo distribution. To keep PyMaemo ready to the future of Maemo its necessary to use this bleeding edge distribution. At moment I'm fixing some issues related to PyHildon and PyGTK. Source tree available at:

Tip: I've had some problems with theme inside Sardine. To solve this just use the plankton theme as default. I did a backup of '/usr/share/themes/default' and 'cp -r plankton default'.

Just spreading Jt's post about the Mozilla-Br meeting here in Brazil this month. I would really love to attend, and I am working hard on it ;)

Repubblica ha lanciato una raccolta di firme, anche sponsorizzata da Camilleri, per difendere Ragusa e il resto dei patrimoni mondiali dell'UNESCO e bloccare la concessione.

I didn't know, I found it out only now, but this is as shameful as the issue of public tax records, if not more. They want to murder the "Val di Noto", UNESCO world heritage with its wonderful baroque churches, and of which Ragusa Ibla is one of the most important towns. They want to build a f....g oil drill!!!! A corrupted politician gave permission to an oil company to begin investigation on the site productivity. Let's stop the murder!

Thanks to Lucas comment in the previous post, I've generated a new screenshot. It wasn't a problem with Xephyr version but a broken hildon-desktop upgrade. Now the task navigator area has transparency. Pretty cool.

The WebKit Gtk+/Cairo port has recently had a burst of activity — it’s really starting to shape up. Now employed by Collabora, I’ve had the opportunity to coordinate my efforts on the port and in the last couple of weeks we’ve provided patches for over a dozen bug reports (often requests for enhancement) . Most importantly, we’ve decided to work with the WebKit team to keep contributions going directly into the upstream SVN repository — no more dead-end forks and “development branches”.

As pointed out by Carlos in GNOME Mobile mailing list and Quim in his presentation at LinuxTag, Hildon will become an upstream project. The idea from now on is to make Hildon a more independent and community-driven project as it’s going to be used in different contexts other than Maemo (i.e. Ubuntu Mobile). This means that Hildon won’t be a Maemo-specific project anymore and will have its own release schedule, roadmap and community.

It's Wednesday and as promised, I'm launching UKMP 1.2.

After a while I got some time to pack up a new minimo maemo port version. It pretty stable, based on the just launched minimo 0.2 .

Innanzitutto, inizio con una bella notizia: i texani hanno rinunciato a trivellare la Val di Noto dopo che l'appello lanciato da Camileri attraverso le pagine di Repubblica ha raggiunto le 70.000 firme ed e' stato tradotto in Francia e in Inghilterra!!! Evviva!!

I'm quite often asked for screen shots of applications running on maemo, specially that ones I ported. In most of the cases, my bosses want to use them in presentations, but I always lose those images somehow. So every time I'm asked for them, I lose time searching for the old screen shots until I realize I've lost them and even more time taking/sending the images to whoever asked.

Tired of losing so much time, I've decided to reactivate my flickr account and use it for something a little bit more useful, satisfying mine needs and also my bosses. I've organized all screen shots in this photo set. Now, the next time I'm asked, all I have to do is to send this link and everybody is happy ever after.



I've also joined the maemo group on flickr and uploaded the shots there. It also worth saying that setting image descriptions/applying tags/uploading was very much easier using Ross' Postr. Really nice piece of software.

It's been a while since a faucet in one of the restrooms of our office is broken. The water won't stop flowing until you pull the button up. Someone has had the brilliant idea to warn people about it:

AT&T announced today that it was beginning “Video Share” services in Atlanta, Dallas and San Antonio, with additional markets to come in July and eventually rolling out to 50 cities.

Another wednesday, another release of UKMP.

Major features in this release are: faster startup and delete song functionality. 1.3 uses a database file that is stored in covers directory. Basically what it contains is the id3 data of mp3 songs on your system. By using this file, ukmp doesn't have to scan all your mp3 files on startup. It'll just check which files you have on your system, then retrieve them from db or from id tags if it doesn't have them on the db. On my music library of around 400 songs, this dropped mmc scanning from 21 secs to around 3 secs. Nice improvement, huh?

Delete song is just that, delete. You enable it by pressing the mode toggle. First switch is party mode, second is delete songs mode. Once you are in delete song mode, just click on a song in the song list and it'll delete it.

This version fixes a few bugs from previous versions, most notably the cover.jpg bug.

I was talking to a few Nokia guys some time ago and they asked what was the single thing I would change for the tablet immediately. I said: make a proper D-pad (direction pad). Get one from the n-gage team. They said, yeah, but software wise. I thought for a while and said: calendaring / PIM. Almost every review complains about that.

We are planning to launch a new release of PyMaemo next week. Highlights of this new version are: osso-ic and osso-help support and lots of bugfixes.

When I was writing papers, choices of words always cause troubles for me, whose native language is not English. WordNets can help me much. Of cause, WordNets' use is not limited to this scenario. Many guys love this tool, and if you are one of them, I guess you must like Visuwords Visuwords presents a flash visual interface to wordnets, which can attract your eyes quickly. Now, we do not need to click the dropdown list many times to see synonyms, hypernyms, hyponyms, meronyms, and holonyms of a word. If I get more free time in near future, I may try to integrate Visuwords with stardict.
