so I just uploaded xkbd-bthid for Maemo2.0. You have to follow the install instructions otherwise it doesn't work!

I also installed the final version of the IT2006 software today. The first thing I noticed is that it is much faster or snappier then before, really nice.

I now run my own Maemo2.0 repository. I know it is point less that everybody sets up their own repository, but I just wanted to play with it (I'm a long time Debian user and I was just curious about how this repository thing actually works). See the repository settings below:

An Ode to Asa

An Ode to Asa An Ode to Asa

Sometimes you don't realize how important someone or something is until it is long gone. Asa predates my involvement with mozilla, and he has served many roles since I started contributing.

We actually spent time at XTech this year talking about some of his various roles, and there are many. This article is about one of his earliest roles. That of a Community Relations Manager. For many people who started their involvement with Mozilla between 1998 and 2002, Asa was probably the first person with whom they interacted. I think it's fairly safe to say that most people when asked to recall their first experience will indicate that it was a good one thanks to Asa. Asa has a number of talents and skills. He's friendly, personable, and charismatic. He would also spend time helping and he was knowledgable and known and respected. He still is these things. Unfortunately, he outgrew this position and has moved on to bigger and better things. In some ways this is our loss. Asa in each of his roles is irreplacable. And looking back, indeed no one has filled those roles.

What did Asa do?

  • He certainly introduced people to the people who they needed to meet.
  • He definitely helped people get to know the tools that they needed to use.
  • He especially generated positive experiences and provided encouragement.

What do we need?

Maemo GAIM for IT OS 2006 edition

I was pleasantly surprised to find that maemo-gaim has been nicely packaged by Santtu Lakkala (and some bugs fixed too) for IT OS 2006 edition. Thanks Santtu. You can get the instructions how to install here

It would also be cool if the packaging could further be broken down at IM protocol level e.g gaim-protocol-irc or something like as done for locales.

Things I am planning for maemo gaim (only if I get some time off enjoying my summer :)
- integrate gaim-galago (I guess only thing that need to be done is package it)
- enable gnome-presence-applet for maemo as a status bar plugin [ I have already now kind of ripped off the libpanelapplet to make a bonoboo-less lite version]. I have it kind of running on desktop but need to clean/fix up stuff. As an idea maybe this presence status bar plugin can be further enhanced to communicate with gaim using gaim-remote to do simple things like sending quick message to a contact etc.

I just checked my site stats and saw about 6000 hits for my maemo repository during the last 20 days, this is awesome! Especially nice is that my IpHome homepage plugin seems to have a lot of users.

Btw. I have a new utility in the queue. Hopefully I have enough spare time during my job search in order to finish it before I start working.

Gizmo is offering free calls to landline and mobile phones to certain destinations (only landline lines for some of them). All the calls to these lines will be for free, although they can limit the length of every call.

The only condition is that both persons have to be Gizmo users, and they have to add their landline and mobile numbers to their profile. So if you add your mobile and/or landline numbers, you are in one of the free destinations, your contact add their numbers as well and he is also in a free destination, both of you will be able to call to any of the numbers for free.

It is a bit limited, because they do not allow to call to any number, but is better than nothing.
