Backup - wishlist

Hi!
Though I very appreciate it that the developers of Maemo recognised the
need for a backup application I think the implemented backup method is
only half baked, sorry.

The mechanism is nice and many post-installed application already use it
- i.e. to register your data and have it backed-up.

But have you ever made a backup before flashing a new image and then
restored the backup? Yes? What was missing?

The application manager (installer) does not backup anything at all!
It does not backup the repository list and it does not backup the list
of post-installed applications.
Why is that? It would be easy to do and save a lot of hassle to dig out
all the repos one once entered in a tedious process.

This should really be easy to fix, at least the backup of the repository
list.

So please @Nokia: For the next release fix the application manager
backup. Thanks!

Hey Nils,

I'm not sure you saw the about backup and application manager today? ;-)

It was the decision of Marius to *don't make backups* in Application
Manager that got us here. And it is already fixed, unfortunatelly for
the IT-2006 users, only in Sardine, not in IT-2006.

Be sure we do "backup and reflash new image" on daily or weekly basis
here. Just imagine how annoying that it for us. Even worse knowing that
the "guilty" guy sits just next door :)

Don't hit him too hard... I am sure he had reasons for not doing it. But
it is good to know that it will come.

Thanks for the hint! Though it makes my wish to have that feature rather
now than later even stronger - shall I try Sardine or not? Oh well...
