Phone app: call forwarding

Posted on 2010-03-24 17:57 UTC by Dan Söderlund. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Other.

When you put a call on hold, call a second one and then want to connect the two and disconnect youself, you press "4 + send" or something like that. I'ts some kind of standard 3G net function...and it's used in the swedish operator Tre in their Switch service. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on the N900.

I had a chat with Nokia/Tre where they explained that this possibility is NOT implemented yet om the N900.

Multiple selections and actions in list views

Posted on 2010-03-27 10:58 UTC by Jens Wiik. Status: Waiting, Categories: User Experience.

The List example in Qt Widget Gallery supports multiple selection, but the user needs to separately activate it from the menu.  This is not practical, and users need to know to look for it.

I think multiple selection should be available constantly, but having checkboxes next to each row would be ugly, so I propose a background-colored area instead.  See the attachment.

Furthermore, the multiple selection mechanism could be extended to offer quick access to secondary actions.  The current popup menu is uncomfortable.  When a "checkbox" is activated, a toolbar could replace the top row of the list view.  In my example, obvious buttons would be select all, select none, add to playlist, add to current playlist, delete.

The area outside the checkbox area would still function as it does now - single click to primary action.

ANT+ support

There exists a protocol named ANT+ which is touted as a low power wireless sensor network. Many devices use it, in particular bicycle computers and heart rate monitors. It apparently uses frequencies in the 2.4GHz band. I know there are many transceivers in the N900. I was hoping one of them could be made to work with ANT+. Even though I am a developer, I have never worked with wireless protocols or RF in general, so I thought I would ping on others here before going on a wild goose chase.

Some Linux software already works with the protocol using a USB adaptor that is basically an ANT+ to serial adaptor:

Garmin ANT+ data downloader

another ANT+ utility

Improve N900 security

Posted on 2010-03-28 18:01 UTC by Tigran K. Status: Under consideration, Categories: System.

I think most of us are familiar with PIN code system on mobile devices. However on N900 if you dont know the PIN you can simply skip that window and it will continue to boot into OS. So even without SIM support e.g. you wont be able to make phone calls but all other functions are available.

Touch Zoom for Image viewer and camera

Posted on 2010-03-28 22:47 UTC by sopheak hean. Status: Waiting, Categories: Media.

Not sure if this have been posted but I'm going to go at it.
As you all know there is no virtual Zoom buttons on the screen for Photos and When recording or taking pictures.

Would have been very easy to use with on screen buttons instead of the Volume keys.
Also very handy when recording video, physical button zoom make noise and virtual button zoom doesn't.
