Developers should get karma based on the relevance of their software

Currently the developers receive karma basically based in how many Garage projects are maintaining or involved with. This is actually a not very relevant statistic: one developer might have only one project making happy to 100.000 users (see Mplayer) while other might have opened 14 garage projects for 14 command-line direct ports of Debian that actually nobody uses or could care less about.

This is not easy to address as there are many possibilities to be unfair e.g. several developers in a project with different degree of involvement, apps downloaded by thousands that are "easy" ports of projects developed hardly by someone else. I wouldn't make big fuzz of this karma for developers, but it would be good to take it into account somehow.

Currently it's easier to get plenty of karma blogging about apps, talking about apps and commenting bugs in apps... but at the end are the dvelopers who carry with a lot of the hard work. Let's praise them!

Undelayed bugfix releases for Nokia (open source) packages.

Nokia has few applications under open source licence such as Modest and application manager. Now, as case with Modest by the time of creation of this text, there are a few critical bugs/issues which affect a large amount of people. The fix is available in the source code but updated version of the package is not released until Nokia releases a full update. The lead time could be couple of months and the release times are never annouced beforehand.

Due to the delay, many active people notice the same bugs and go to bugzilla. Sometimes they do notice the existing report and write their own - this causes many duplicated bug reports to appear. Sometimes the bug is already fixed internally. A lot of effort is wasted thereby with the delayed bugfix release and redundant work. Delays and redundant work creates frustration. Additionally, the software may be unusable for many months when it could be fixed now. Talented individual frustrated enough might roll up their own update, but if 10 people do it for themselves this is clearly again a lot more wasted effort and time.

Delay is therefore bad for user experience and can make the whole device look bad in the eye of frustrated people. This is definitely a lost position for marketing efforts when fast bugfix releases would be a positive element for consumer mind.

Maps/Contacts/Calendar Integration

Many people have appointments at addresses which are stored in their Contacts directory. It wopuld be nice to link the address information with the appointment and link that to the event's location in Maps. Ovi Maps on S60 already has the ability to search for properly formatted addresses from Contacts and one would assume the Maemo version will have the same facility.

Implement portrait mode in Media Player (audio)

It should really be possible to use Fremantle Media Player in the portrait mode, at least when playing audio. A typical usage pattern would be to keep Fremantle device in your pocket while listening to music, then quickly take it out with one hand to browse through the list of tracks. Portrait mode has following advantages here:

1. You can easily hold the device with one hand (like Nokia 5800 and similar devices)

2. The portrait-oriented track list can show more tracks

3. As the device is already sitting vertically in your pocket, to let the headphone wire out, you do not need to rotate it.
