Yes, a known issue. I haven't been following it closely, but here is
the forum thread to start your research on the subject:

There is an enhancement request on bugs.maemo.org, and I believe a
widget for this purpose is out. Enjoy!!

Yup, bug 5357 [1]. This has been fixed, and support should be included
in the PR 1.2 update.
The stop-gap solution is the USSD Widget [2].

The keyword: USSD
The problem: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5357
The current solution: http://maemo.org/packages/view/ussd-widget/

Hi,
I am facing the similar problem as posted earlier by flukebox.
In UAE one of the service providers has given facility to check account
balance *121# & data package plan usage check *144*3# instantly after
dialing it but my N900 does not support it , either it supports *#0000# &
*#06# and I did check with Nokia Customer careline but they said me to
reinstall the latest firmware which i already updated 1 week back when i
purchased this phone as OTA was available on the screen.
I tried to go into your link given below & download the file & source but it
does'nt seem to install perhaps it stopped my application manager other
files.
So is there any follow up step by step method to download & install the file
& come out of this bug.
Thanks

You should use Application manager on your N900 device to install the
ussd-widget.
As the widget is located in the extras-devel repository, read the
warnings on this page first and then activate the repository on your
device (the last section of this page)
http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-devel
And here is more information about downloading applications for your
device (if you are not familiar with Application Manager)

When I type *123# number from my Nokia n900 running Maemo 5, it says
invalid number.
This number *123# is service specific number from my service provider
and used for balance enquiry.
Does anyone facing same issue ?
Do we already have a bug for this ?
Do we have work around for this ?
Please note that this number works fine with other cell phones.
