Hi Sanjeev,

Hopefully you're aware of the upcoming Maemo Community Council
election[1]. There are a number of candidates now (and nominations
close tomorrow). It'd be great if you could do some coverage, and ask
some some questions of the candidates, during the week following the
close of nominations before the election starts. (For that matter,
anyone else running a Maemo blog should consider doing similar!)

Maybe even some kind of debate. I've asked questions of each of the
candidates (before I started running myself), so there's some
information already out there:

I've now compiled a page containing summaries from each candidate's
declaration and links to their answers to each Q&A:

Hello Andrew,

That is an excellent idea.

Ideally, a proper debate would best be accomplished with a
teleconference type format. Given the short timeframe and the number
and geographic diversity of the candidates, I am doubtful that I could
pull that off.

However, I could expand upon your questionnaire approach, and that
would also suit my personal time constraints as well.

I will start a talk thread requesting some community input into
questions for the candidates. I will use some of the questions from
the community in the set that will get sent to all candidates.

Candidates - would you be kind enough to respond to this email by
tomorrow with your willingness to participate in this 'debate'
process?

Thanks, and best regards.

Sanjeev

I don't believe a true debate format is appropriate for the sort of election we're holding, but, yes, I'm more than willing to participate in some sort of QA/discussion/whatever. ;)

I second that (i.e. not necessarily a real-time debate, but public
discussion).

sure, I'm in!
I would prefer written questions and answers, so that everyone can take the
time it needs to answer and can think a little bit more about the questions.

I agree that a live debate won't necessarily be easy (or probably
constructive) and that a questionnaire approach would be best. I'd
suggest that although a lot of the questions would be shared, specific
questions for specific candidates would be useful and follow-ups if a
candidate has dodged a question.

I also wonder if there's value in gathering the responses and then
publishing them in one go - anything else may lead to group-think.

Anyway, I'm in :-)

Cheers,

Andrew

I'm available to reply by email to any question, but I don't think I
could be interested in a live debate or even worse in a large t.m.o.
thread.
Forum threads has become something really impossible to follow due to
its big noise. If the debate is "mandatory" I'll be there anyway but
my hopinion is that I don't like it and it's not good to introduce a
new rule while games are already playing :)

I would welcome any question. However, I am new to this list and responding
to these posts in a timely manner as you all can see, requires some
modification to my daily routine. Not impossible, but changes none the less.
Please forgive my tardiness until I have acquired this new discipline. Wich
shouldn't take long.
