AutoText

I've preordered my Nokia N900, and I propose an application for Maemo 5 that I've found very useful on my Blackberry for the past few years. It's the autotext app. What it does is allow the user to pre-program a sequence of characters and have the OS replace said characters with another set. For example, my name is never capitalized on my phone, so I made an autotext for when the OS finds me typing (in real time) kent, it automatically changes it to Kent after pressing space after the word. Some other examples of this are the following (which I use, I'm sure many of you will find it very useful and this will increase your typing speed, and overall productivity). Once again, these are all based on my usage.

Left handed mode

The device is designed for right handed people such that the user can simultaneously use the navigation buttons with their left hand while holding the device and use the stylus with their right hand.

From photographs of the device it appears that similar functionality can be provided for left handed users by rotating what is displayed on the screen 180 degrees and using the device 'upside-down'. That is the user holds the device in his/her free hand (right hand for left handed person) with the stylus in their writing hand (left for left handed person).

Although the placement of the navigation buttons means that the left-handed person will not be using the device exactly as if it were designed for a left-handed person (instead of a right handed person) it seems to be an excellent compromise.

maemo.org should take over maintenance of the build chain

It is hard to run a half-closed and half-open project. Nokia should free as much of thier software as possible to the community thereby lightening their own maintenance load and cost. maemo.org should be the place where developers get the software they need to create applications for the device and Nokia should pull and push software to the maemo.org repositories.

Every newspaper would tell you that people like to play sudoku. On the train, bus, waiting for an airplane, etc.

Proposal: Power_Management-Power_Saving

I did a quick search via Google and didn't find anyone proposing this yet (if they have I apologize and let me know and I'll delete this post or someone else can delete it). Or if the n900 has capabilities like this already..
