Proposal: Power_Management-Power_Saving

Posted on 2009-09-24 02:51 UTC by Victor Quach. Status: Invalid, Categories: System.

I did a quick search via Google and didn't find anyone proposing this yet (if they have I apologize and let me know and I'll delete this post or someone else can delete it). Or if the n900 has capabilities like this already..

But since the n900 is now also a phone but keeping its computer like roots, how about adding custom power management or power management rules like you see on laptops (regardless of operating system). Maybe we can have modes like:

Phone Mode: All background apps are killed, wifi off, GPS off, bluetooth off, screen lowest brighting setting possible. The idea of course being saving all the remaining battery power for just pure phone/sms usage.

Regular/Full: As it is now

Music Mode: Like phone mode but with a music app running. For those who are playing music and still want to take phone calls.

Custom: User decides what to turn off, what to keep on, etc..Ideally have a few saveable custom pre-sets that are nameable.

I know the n900 has something like this from watching videos and I think somewhere I read on Maemo Talk.

Granted you could do something like this right now with a script on the n700/n800/n810 if you knew how to kill processes, set volume, and set brightness. But I was thinking a more GUI friendly way for those who don't want to mess with scripts and for newcomers who may not know how to script at all. Ideally something with easily manipulable power settings (sliders) and checkboxes. The other issue is killing processes with a killall command is dirty, and won't save documents if you happened to be writing something or downloading a file.

Again I apolgize if this feature already exists or has been posted already on here.

Edit: Trying to figure out how to close this.
