Brainstorm

electronic compass

Posted on 2010-01-31 09:34 UTC by Sascha Riedinger. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Location & Navigation, Programming, Devices.

As we all know the N900 has no electronic compass, but for some applications like astronomy apps and augmented reality it could be very useful to have the possibility to determine in which direction the device is facing.

Especially for astronomy programs like stellarium it would be advantageous that the compass also works if the device isn't in line with the horizontal level (or if it's possible the accelerometer data has to be used to calculate the right data)

An additional device must have a clamp etc to fixate on the N900. A electronic compass needs to be calibrated, with a clamp that asserts same alignment every time it is used the calibration process must be done only once.

features could be:

- record to a mp3 audio file / *.aac  // kept directly on the device
- manage black/white list
- keep a quick overview journal
- direct on entry-press call back feature

impressions:

- Advanced Call Manager
- PhonePilot
- or just good old "answering machine"

Regards,
Kontur.

Lost and found

I propose an application to utilise Google's geolocation API to allow users to either find themselves or their missing device. This will be useful for times when the user and/or device are indoors or in a built up city area and GPS data is not available.

Split Downloads Page into more Categories

Posted on 2010-02-02 09:18 UTC by David B. Status: Under consideration

At the moment on the downloads page we have only two categories:

Poplular and Fresh.

I propose Fresh is split into two categories:

- Latest Updated and

- New Apps

So it is a little clearer for people to know what is new and what has been updated, as i like looking at Maemo every few days to see what new apps have been added.
