managed to create some web pages for the app using sphinx. this polutes the git repo a bit and, unfortunately, i've discovered i need to put the web pages in git a bit too late - most of the documenting work was already done at that point. if you'd prefer to have a single web page instead of the current stuff, please make a bug report.
