C++ developers will benefit from an official set of bindings covering the maemo API. These bindings will be supported as part of the developer offer of maemo 4.0 Chinook, the next stable release of the Nokia Internet Tablet OS developer platform. C++ bindings will be released along with releases of the regular C API, being tested and published in parallel.

From a user point of view, C++ applications will be installable with a single click. The Application Manager will take care of the dependencies and will install the needed libraries from the maemo repository.

The bindings are being developed and maintained by Openismus, a company lead by Murray Cumming that has been providing bindings since maemo 2.x. The project is being sponsored by Forum Nokia, who is in the process of adding maemo support to their portfolio of services. C++ is a very popular language in software development for mobile devices, as Nokia has already experienced with the Symbian OS.
