IMHO it should, for several reasons.

a) As the description says, this is a tinkerer package, something for people wanting to write something on their own.

b) If there is no package, people are forced to do rootsh and install/deinstall from the command line, not something we recommend to any newbie, anyway. If they use this package, they can have a complete development cycle without ever touching root or the console.

c) To be able to receive updates. If you just apt-get it, you will not receive updates in the Application manager, even when a new version comes out.

d) To gain exposure. People have no idea about package names, this proved to be a simple and efficient way of getting what they want.

e) If something is amiss, they can easily uninstall it. If there is a Qt related dependency issue for example, and they uninstall via apt-get, they can easily shred their install to pieces. HAM at least prevents that and provides a clean uninstall path.

f) HAM does autoclean/autoremove which they might not know about

g) see the discussion at http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=515151&postcount=50

Of course if you say it's a blocker, it's a blocker (even though based on the feedback from t.m.o. I heartily disagree :).

Humm, isn't this just libraries ? IMO shouldn't be promoted to Extras as an application.
