Gringotts is a small utility for Linux and other unices that allows you to jot down sensitive data (passwords, credit card numbers, PINs, friends' addresses) in an easy-to-read, easy-to-access, and most of all very secure form. For encryptions, Gringotts makes use of the libGringotts library, that is based upon libMCrypt and MHash by Nikos Mavroyanopoulos; in addition, it uses GTK+ 2 for the interface.

The nice thing of Gringotts is that you can share your encrypted file with your desktop machine. So, you're sure that i.e. your password will be readable from backup even if your tablet gets borked!
It worked fine in my N810. As said by fixerdave, it is necessary to add 3 extra packages: libgringotts, libmcrypt4 and libmhash2, all regularly available in the repository. The only problem I found so far is that some of the menus are not correctly translated to English (they're still in German), which is not a problem to me as I know German.
Perfect integration with Gringotts installed on my Ubuntu machine (is exactly the same application), and very nice feature to encrypt, store and share plain text as well as any kind of binary file.
It didn't work for me on my N810. After allowing it to add a repository and install, the start icon did nothing. From a terminal, running it showed that it wanted the libgringotts package, so I apt-got that. Still nothing, the terminal showed that it wanted a libcrypt... package. I tried installing that but it wasn't found. I gave up and rolled it back; not worth the effort at this point. Oh well, maybe the next release will have the dependencies worked out.
The original author of Gringotts and libgringotts is Germano Rizzo, but those products are currently maintained by Shlomi Fish (see Homepage for detail).
The Maemo port of Gringotts is currently at its early stage, but feedback is welcome!
