I laugh a lot on my friends face when they get the text is the operator name... :D
Great app, but would be handy to be able to disable it from the settings. Sometimes when abroad I'd like to see which network I'm on and I end up un-installing the app, and then re-installing afterwards.
Very amusing widget
The only point is entertainment
Absolutely useless, but I love it anyway.
J'adore ! C'est marrant et super paramètrable xD !
Very beautiful customization app. Makes N900's desktop feel a lot more customizable.

Not my fault; instead, blame the Control Panel for not updating its cached screenshot.
Anyway, the following from an X Terminal should do it: rm -f /home/user/.cache/launch/com.nokia.controlpanel.pvr
I liked using it, but after uninstalling the widget option still displays in settings when I first open settings and then it fades away. Is there a way to stop that?
I don't plan on making this into the next Conky. :)
Being able to get the real operator name is rather hard to do, as the functions for doing so are tied up in a library that does not offer me a way to use it.
I can do something limited (and have more fun dealings with DBus-Glib...) using the MCC and MNC to get a network name from /etc/operator_settings but this file is not exactly current...
The original applet gets the name from the SIM but I have no way of doing so due to the reason stated in paragraph 2.
For the IP thing, install Personal IP Address and add X--Multiple=true to its desktop file; and find you can now add it multiple times, on different desktops even.
Is it possible to expand on this so that it can display other information?
An option to display the original network name for online (plus custom text) would be cool, as you could still change connecting, offline and the text colour.
For example I would love for it to display my IP address and/or free disk space too so that I can see those regardless of which desktop I am on.
