JAVA and J2ME Support on Maemo5

Posted on 2010-02-28 22:05 UTC by Austin Aigbe. Status: Under consideration, Categories: maemo.org.

Maemo5 should fully support J2ME (MIDP 2.1). This will give the Maemo platform an edge and make it compete will with the Android OS.

3G video call support for N900

Posted on 2010-02-28 22:20 UTC by Austin Aigbe. Status: Waiting, Categories: User Experience.

Develop a maemo5 application that allows 3G video calls to be made using the N900's front camera. The application should work more like a plugin (maemo5 plugin or service). A "make video call" menu item should be added to the "calls" option.

As powerful as the N900 is, it is important to include this feature. It is an important feature for a 3G phone.

Multilayot/language support

Posted on 2010-03-01 07:37 UTC by Misha K.. Status: Under consideration

For now for hardware keyboard languages there are only option to set two languages, and the default will be the language you set at preference. But some people still want to use english as default, as well some people would like to have more than 2 languages on hardware keyboard. And one of the biggest problems is the differents between official USA and other countries hardware keyboards (as lack of the keys in some countries arrows and some english layout keys are different from USA keyboard)

Use the FM receiver as a TMC receiver together with Ovi Maps

Posted on 2010-03-03 13:15 UTC by Zoltan Orosz. Status: Waiting, Categories: Location & Navigation.

I think it would absolutely awesome if one could combine the FM receiver with Ovi Maps, so the navigation app could use the traffic information available on FM frequencies when planning routes. As the N900 has both an FM receiver and a GPS, i think this could improve the navigation experience quite much. More info on TMC here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_Message_Channel

Using N900 as a car video recorder for traffic incidents

Posted on 2010-03-05 13:39 UTC by Silviu Marin-Caea. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Desktop.

N900 could be used as a car video recorder to have proof in case of trafic incidents (like proof you didn't run a red light etc).  Also, the camera software needs to run in the background so other applications like Ovi maps can run in the foreground.

Requirements:

1. A car holder that does not obstruct the camera lens

2. The camera software needs an option to keep recording when not running in the foreground

3. The camera software needs options to be able to record in smaller resolutions.  Or, easier to implement and preferable, a wrap-around feature: record 30 minutes (user configurable duration) in file1, then record the next 30 min in file2, then overwrite file1 with the next 30 min and so on.  This way you would have a record of the last 30+ minutes at all times.
