Internet on Demand

My "old" Symbian phone is only online, when an application requests the connection. After the application completes the task, the internet connection is closed automatically. A good example is the mail client -> internet connection is only needed during synchronization. I would like to have this functionality on Maemo too, to save battery life.

As we find more and more useful websites viewed from our N900's, desktop real estate is at a premium and the desktop can become quickly covered by large webpage thumbnails. Devise a means with which to assign smaller standard desktop icons to these bookmarks so that the larger thumbnail does not have to be used. Allow storage of these icons in a user accessible directory in /home/user/MyDocs

could we have a larger more touch friendly keypad for unlocking the phone from coded lock?

Some pretty basic stuff that I hope is not hard to impliment is having caller id specific ring tones instead of just one ring tone for everything, and the same for the alarm clock, being able to have a different ringer for each alarm should be a basic feature.

The first being the most important, I dont bother to answer the phone unless I know its important so I like to give  my wife and parents exclusive ring tones so I know its them calling me.

I am requesting this for Maemo 5 / N900

it's nice that keyboard stroke in homescreen can search for contacts. but how about including other sources such as the application list, text messages, emails and so on?

this was achievable on the e71/symbian with Handyshell. very handy indeed regardless of how many app shortcuts I created.
