Adaptive backlight time-out

The idea of this brainstorm is to add an "automatic" option to the Backlight time-out menu in Display settings.

The backlight time-out could be set to automatic (e.g., between a minimal and maximal value).  If the user taps the screen (or uses the screen lock switch) to turn the backlight back on right after it dimmed automatically, the interval until the next auto-dimming should increase (e.g., double).  If the user does not attempt to bring the backlight back on, the next auto-dimming interval can be short (e.g., the minimal value can be utilized).

Enable hardware arrow keys universally

Scrolling through lists (using the touchscreen) on ALL touch screen devices is, in my opinion, rubbish.

For example, I often find that I am accidentally selecting images in the Photos viewer and dialing numbers when scrolling the call log.

By far the worst offender is the Applications list: going through the list is a complete pain.

Maybe touchscreen devices aren't for me ;)

Maybe so. But as the N900 has a keyboard, I propose the hardware arrow keys are enabled across all applications.

Kinetic scrolling is a really clever way to get quickly through a long list. But if you're touching the screen, it is too easy to accidentally select the wrong item, or miss the thing you were looking for and have to go back up the list again, and go too far again, then have to go down again ...

Camera timer for taking timed shots

Posted on 2010-02-19 16:48 UTC by Clayton Craft. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Media.

Having the ability to take timed photos (automatically after 5 seconds for example) would be a very useful feature. Some instances where is would be handy:

- Taking a group photo in which the user wishes to be a part of would set the N900 on a stand, set the timer, and join the photo

- Taking self-portraits while traveling, etc. User would set N900 on stand, set timer, and get into place

Currently the only way this would be possible is if the user is somehow fast enough to beat the camera shutter. Unless he/she is superman, the user has no chance to beat the shutter.

Improve Backup Application: Add scheduling options

Posted on 2010-02-24 11:13 UTC by Corwin Amber. Status: Under consideration, Categories: System.

The built in Backup Application in the N900 is great already but also has potential.

One possible improvement would be the addition of scheduling options to run automatic backups.
