Camera timer for taking timed shots

Posted on 2010-02-19 16:48 UTC by Clayton Craft. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Media.

Having the ability to take timed photos (automatically after 5 seconds for example) would be a very useful feature. Some instances where is would be handy:

- Taking a group photo in which the user wishes to be a part of would set the N900 on a stand, set the timer, and join the photo

- Taking self-portraits while traveling, etc. User would set N900 on stand, set timer, and get into place

Currently the only way this would be possible is if the user is somehow fast enough to beat the camera shutter. Unless he/she is superman, the user has no chance to beat the shutter.

Solution #1: User-adjustable timer setting for camera

Posted on 2010-02-19 16:48 UTC by Clayton Craft.

Add a "timer" entry to the camera menu, when selected present user with a 'dropdown list' where they can select predetermined times (5s,10s,15s,30s,etc) and a button to 'take photo'. Once the button is tapped, there will be a delay (whatever value the user selected in the dropdown list), and then the camera will snap a photo. It should preserve the same camera attributes (flash, ISO,etc) that were previously set in the camera app.

Solution #2: Last seconds should be notified by sounds

In addition to solution #1, there should be the possibility to make last seconds of the timer (e.g last 5 seconds) sounding, in order to give the subjects the correct timing for preparing/smiling.

Solution #3: Last seconds may be notified with flash

An alternative to the sound notification could be a short flash or the red led that is lighting during video recording.
