Change UI for incoming call in portrait mode [split Answer and Reject buttons]

Posted on 2010-01-19 20:29 UTC by ZeeD bI. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Desktop, User Experience.

This Brainstorm is merged with an other Brainstorm: http://maemo.org/community/brainstorm/view/actions_when_device_is_locked_and_a_event_like_aleart-alarm_or_call_happens/

Please add your solutions there.

Original text of brainstorm:

Some users of n900 have a problem pressing Reject button instead of Answer. Especially when they operate by one hand or in gloves.

In landscape mode everithing is ok, both buttons are split vertically. In portrait mode those buttons are split horizontally so many people accidentally press Reject button.

May be Nokia can split/rearrange Answer and Reject buttons as a small improvement for n900 UI because Nokia do not want to add SWIPE option for incoming events on locked phone.

Make Task Manager easier to use

I typically have 8-12 apps open.  In the task manager the apps aren't shown in a predetermined order and often look pretty similar, so you find yourself scanning through reading the titles which is quite slow.  It would be nice to have a way of highlighting the apps that are most important to you, for quick access.

Multi-touch functionality

Posted on 2010-01-21 17:13 UTC by Hendrik Karilaid. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Desktop, Location & Navigation, Utilities, User Experience, System.

I know N900 will never support real multi-touch functionality because of resistive screen. But I would like to add some ideas how to implement it with almost same comfort by one touch at the time.

Multi-touch functionality, like zoom and turn, is the only thing where the iPhone is still better than N900. Why not mimic these actions where it is possible and make N900 more attractive for iPhone users? Let say that one finger touches the screen always before the other. You can perform same actions if the first touch position is fixed. It does not make any difference if hold your finger on this position or you rise it. So you can raise it before making the other touch. The only trick is how to recognize the first touch.

Photo application to display Folders, not pictures

Posted on 2010-01-21 21:29 UTC by Tasos F.. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Desktop, Media, User Experience.

Add similar functions to File manager on Photos application:

If I send a photos folder on N900, photos application should display the folder instead of it's contents.

That way Photos become more organized(Wallpapers/Camera photos/Other).

Possibility to create/move folders and files within Photos application(similar to file manager).

AT&T 3G (WCDMA 850/1900 MHz) frequency support

Posted on 2010-01-22 17:17 UTC by Khameinei Ali. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

Dear Brainstormers,

I was referred to this forum by bugs and Nokia themselves (for whatever that's worth). Anyway, I understand the hardware is finalized and it would be difficult to change but I am trying to get some sort of project going for the WCDMA 850/1900 MHz range support for 3G on US AT&T and the majority of South American, some Canadian, and some Australian 3G users. I believe this would greatly increase the sales of N900's and certainly make the experience for many users much better. I understand it supports the EDGE 850/1900 MHz range but how difficult would it be to make this WCDMA? Is it a huge hardware issue or can it be done through a software/firmware change? The provided PDF pictures should show the GSM chip somewhere, I'm not sure what it looks like.
