A quick note from the "maintainer":
Thanks all for voting but I'm suprised to see so many thumbs down. Voting here should reflect testing - is it stable? does it behave well wrt resource use? menu integration? etc. It is not a review of how much you like it. I find it useful and promotion to extras would make it accessible to others.
Note I use the word "maintainer" guardedly as I really don't intend to maintain this package in any way. I have just built it.
To address concerns: 1. no bug tracker: i am not intending to fix bugs so no need. 2. long version number: this is the version number from upstream. 3. font size too small: a personal preference but if anyone can figure out the options to change it please share.
"This package does not have the required bugtracker link specified"
please, avoid version like 0.3.1.cvs.20050713-7f, are too long.
Here are issues that I think should be fixed:
MUST: * bugs.maemo.org entry
SHOULD: * The documentation stripped: - The man page - /usr/share/doc/qemacs - These are removed anyway by docpurge * The include files are not needed (or are they?) * Either increase the X font size, or release the package as console only.
Extremely useful in the terminal (I have an alias in my .profile to "qemacs -nw").
Would be nice to have a selectable (larger) font in a future version, but this isn't a blocker. Looking at the maemo-specific code changes, it looks like they may be preventing "-fs" from working.
I've also seen issues where resizing the terminal confuses it until "C-l" is performed to force a refresh.
It would be good to get the bug database link so that this can get promoted out of testing.
I agree that - run under xterm with -nw - it's quite usable, but it does drop an icon in the menu which - when clicked - gives an application which is unusable due to the font size. Run from xterm, it didn't respond to --font-size parameter (though I can't exclude the possibility I'm invoking it incorrectly; -fs 10 seems the obvious thing to do though.)
There isn't a link to a bug tracker either, like Valerio noted. Taking the extras-testing QA checklist at its word, this would be a blocker.
And even though it's small, optifying it would still be nice.
On the plus side, the default font is quite usable assuming one is using the TV out. :)
Yes, the default font size is tiny but presumably this can be changed using -fn (haven't tried yet), but its great with ssh and -nw. If xauth was ported we could use ssh -Y and run using remote X.
Wow, I love having this small emacs available. I just aliased emacs to 'qemacs -nw' and as the previous post points out, use it when ssh-ing into the device.
Valerio, it's a blocker for ME, ;) but that's uability
Also needs the bug tracker field in the package
The text is too small IMO, but this isn't a blocker.
Not really useable on N900 for me. Text too small, no zoom feature.
I think that qemacs-nox would be more appropriate here since most people want emacs bindings when they shell into the device and edit. The X Window version has incredibly small text.
