Every new user wonders where it is ... let's add the functions by default. We need a solid contact manager, the ability to see and sync a calendar and it should be part of the system.

Solution #4: Integrate the basic functionality in Maemo 5

The proposal is vague and so it is the solution to satisfy it: Maemo 5 should bring a solid contact manager and a calendar with syncing options by default.

Solution #3: Using syncevolution as syncml client

Using syncevolution as syncml client
There is already a very good synml solution for maemo called syncevolution:
http://www.estamos.de/projects/SyncML/index.html#Overview
You can synchronize the osso-addressbook as well as calendars used by pimlico dates. As server you can use every syncml service. A free one is

Syncevolution uses the evolution backend data format.
What should be done is:
- Create a user friendly graphical interface to configure syncevolution
- extend syncevolution's features for notes and tasks
- Make pimlico calendar usable (atm there are some UI bugs...)
- select/create tools for handling notes and tasks in evolution data format
