Contest

For the occasion of GUADEC 2006 in Vilanova i la GeltrĂș, Nokia Multimedia will award the best Maemo hacks by participants to the event. GUADEC happens between the 23rd and the 30th of June. However, entries to the contest do not have to be developed there, it is enough that a member of the team is present at GUADEC to represent the entry and take the prize.

Eligibility

The contest is open to all registered attendants to GUADEC 2006 except Nokia employees and contractors. Registration to GUADEC can still be done here.

Team efforts are welcome, it is enough that one of the members is a participant to GUADEC and has done non-trivial work.

Requirements

In addition to working binaries, all the source code necessary to make the entry function needs to be made available under an OSI-approved open-source license. It must be possible to compile it with Maemo 1.1 or (even better) Maemo 2.0.

Submission

All entries must be submitted before the end of the 25th of June (midnight Vilanova time), that's the end of the Warm up weekend.

To submit an entry you need to: * Add an item to the ApplicationCatalog, ApplicationCatalogWip or LibraryCatalog, pointing to all the necessary elements to make the entry function. * Add a link in GuadecMaemoContestSubmissions to the item in one of the catalogs, with the names of the participant(s), including a link to their pages in guadec.org, like this one * Write an email to guadec06hackcontest@maemo.org. Make sure you include: * A link to the entry in the GuadecMaemoContestSubmissions * Phone number * Email address * Postal address * Confirmed entries will be moved here

Categories and prizes

There will be 3 categories and 3 prizes for each.

Selection and Awards

Winners will be selected by a panel of juries (to be announced).

We will announce the winners and award them their prizes during the GUADEC.

  • Entries implemented from scratch will be equally valued as ports from other platforms based on by their usefulness and technical merit.
  • Entries running on Maemo 2.0 will be particularly valued given the little time available for updating them.
  • Entries running on scratchbox in an x86 PC will be accepted, but entries running on the device will be valued higher.
