I really was hoping to get my main GPS navigator out of N900. Usage in car would greatly enhanced by voice commands, no text/tscreen touch needed. Same use of voice commands for e.g media player music would be welcome too

Solution #1: Sphinx?

Sphinx/PocketSphinx is the only general purpose Open Source speech recognition software that I'm aware of, although there may be others. Presumably unless a commercial vendor is willing to port something, or Nokia has something up their sleeve, Sphinx would be an option.
