It would be useful to select applications using the keyboard.

Solution #1: Start typing, similar to selecting contacts

When you start typing, it can filter based on the input. E.g. "Ca" will only show applications of which the name starts with "Ca", Calendar, Camera, Calculator...

Solution #2: Cursor keys

Allow users to use the cursor keys to pick an application, that is launched when space and/or enter are pushed.
