Make the device into a P.A. microphone

Posted on 2009-09-03 19:21 UTC by alan bruce. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Games, Media, Utilities, Devices.

With the FM transmitter on the N900, it should be possible to make the device into a wireless microphone for public speaking events, using any portable stereo system with an FM radio in it. Older tablets could become wired microphones with the use of the headphone jack.

(sorry that I'm giving a solution in the idea, I don't know how else to phrase it)

Solution #1: Mr Mike

Posted on 2009-09-20 14:23 UTC by alan bruce.

Create a small Maemo 5 app that puts the FM transmitter control (on/off+channel), and mic volume/mute control into one place.

The interface, while in use, should be simple. a big Mute button, a volume slider, and a smaller "FM on/off" button. The channel control and any other controls can be accessed through the menu at the top.

This app needs to handle portrait mode.

Solution #2: Audio to Bluetooth Solution

Posted on 2009-12-15 20:23 UTC by Craig Woodward.

With many audio systems these days being bluetooth enabled, it would be nice to be able to route the mic audio to a bluetooth audio device as well.  If audio were routed back as well, the same app could also be used with a standard headset to provide a quick and cheep "walkie talkie" type app (with limited range, admittedly, but could be usefull).
