Wireless sync for media (especially music)

Posted on 2010-01-19 17:06 UTC by Chris Phillips. Status: Under consideration

The PC Suite doesnt sync pictures on the N900 and Im not sure if ovi music works with the N900 (I darent touch it since it tried to double up my entire catalogue sometime ago!), nevertheless ovi music nor any solution offers syncing over wifi.

So I propose a program that would sync specified folders (between the N900 and Windows (later on Linux and Mac too). This would allow syncing of anything you want and would be especially handy for music syncing, any new photos taken with the N900, easy video syncing.

Music player track numbers

Posted on 2010-01-19 17:33 UTC by Chris Phillips. Status: Under consideration

Something that has always bugged me with my Nokia phones is the way the Music player numbers tracks in shuffle mode.

For example I have 1908 tracks on my player, when in shuffle on a playlist or general shuffle the display says "869/1908 songs" ie its playing track number 869 (ie the 869th song to be added to my N900). This number is completely inconsequential when playing on shuffle. Surely it should say the number of the track playing in the current shuffle play order - ie go up 1, 2, 3 etc so you can tell how far you are through the shuffle list.

Its small details like this that make the difference in an OS.

I hope this makes sense...

Change UI for incoming call in portrait mode [split Answer and Reject buttons]

Posted on 2010-01-19 20:29 UTC by ZeeD bI. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Desktop, User Experience.

This Brainstorm is merged with an other Brainstorm: http://maemo.org/community/brainstorm/view/actions_when_device_is_locked_and_a_event_like_aleart-alarm_or_call_happens/

Please add your solutions there.

Original text of brainstorm:

Some users of n900 have a problem pressing Reject button instead of Answer. Especially when they operate by one hand or in gloves.

In landscape mode everithing is ok, both buttons are split vertically. In portrait mode those buttons are split horizontally so many people accidentally press Reject button.

May be Nokia can split/rearrange Answer and Reject buttons as a small improvement for n900 UI because Nokia do not want to add SWIPE option for incoming events on locked phone.

Right handed popup menus

Posted on 2010-01-20 18:14 UTC by Niall Walsh. Status: Waiting, Categories: User Experience.

In a number of applications you can bring up a popup menu by holding down on e.g. a link (like a normal right click menu).   The problem as I see it is that these menus are currently setup for left handed users as the menu appears to the right of the point held down so a right handed users hand will obscure the menu.   It would be great it these menus appeared (where screen space allows) to the left of the held point.   Ideally a configuration option would allow left-handed users to retain the current behaviour.
