Repository category for Maemo Application Manager

I think the Maemo community and Extra's repo is excellent, but Maemo and all future and past devices need a single source for all applications.

Maemo Paid Application Store

Posted on 2010-01-30 13:25 UTC by David B. Status: Under consideration

Ok the application store by nokia at:

http://store.ovi.com

Why not have a paid application store for Maemo, you have a great community and with a paid store perhaps you will get developers such as Sygic etc who have a primary interest in making money rather than contributing free apps.

In other words perhaps you will attract more developers wanting to tap into this great and loyal community.

The Maemo extras repo is on every N900 by default !

electronic compass

Posted on 2010-01-31 09:34 UTC by Sascha Riedinger. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Location & Navigation, Programming, Devices.

As we all know the N900 has no electronic compass, but for some applications like astronomy apps and augmented reality it could be very useful to have the possibility to determine in which direction the device is facing.

Especially for astronomy programs like stellarium it would be advantageous that the compass also works if the device isn't in line with the horizontal level (or if it's possible the accelerometer data has to be used to calculate the right data)

An additional device must have a clamp etc to fixate on the N900. A electronic compass needs to be calibrated, with a clamp that asserts same alignment every time it is used the calibration process must be done only once.

ANSWERING MACHINE on N900

Posted on 2010-01-31 15:05 UTC by tim c. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Office, Utilities, User Experience.

features could be:

- record to a mp3 audio file / *.aac  // kept directly on the device
- manage black/white list
- keep a quick overview journal
- direct on entry-press call back feature

impressions:

- Advanced Call Manager
- PhonePilot
- or just good old "answering machine"

Kontur.
