Recovery mode for bricked device

Posted on 2010-01-03 03:01 UTC by Max Mikh. Status: Under consideration

It will be great to have Recovery mode for n900. This mode should be similar to most Linux destributives. It is actual at least this question was asked on forum 3 times in last 2 days. Errors in some files (for example "/etc/event.d/rcS-late") can brick device. Even users know where is error, they cannot fix it. Thread for discussion can be used this: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=450655

Additionally this mode could be usefull for perform fsck on unmounted /home partition

Shortcut to switch between running applications

Posted on 2010-01-11 23:00 UTC by Tasos F.. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Desktop, System, Programming.

Hello everyone, So I was thinking about how to make the N900 user experience even easier while multitasking. Would it be possible to create a keyboard shortcut that will allow the user to switch between running applications? For example, you have these applications running in the dashboard: 1) Web browser 2) Conversations 3) File manager When clicking CTRL+1 it would go to Web browser. CTRL+2 Conversations etc This shortcut is just an example. Let me know what you think so we can create a brainstorm.

Boost battery output

Posted on 2010-01-13 00:10 UTC by Brad Grigor. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Devices.

"Power" users (pun intended) will not achieve all-day computing on the N900 with the supplied battery due to the high drain of the various radios, the added load of the GSM radio and phone application and certain other applications. While other brainstorms are looking at improving application efficiency, this brainstorm is looking to improve the battery in the N900.

Easier way of typing accentuated characters

Posted on 2010-01-15 17:24 UTC by Clément Vasken Labadie. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

Typing accentuated characters in Maemo is not the easiest nor the fastest action to perform. This is certainly not a huge issue for english speakers, but it may be for others.

Simple example : we french people love to put accents everywhere, because it's sooo much fun! :p
If you want to type the word "été" (french for summer), you have to type the following sequence :

Fn + Sym + accent + e + t + Fn + Sym + accent + e

That's a lot of keystrokes for a 3-letter word!

As many other languages make use of accentuated characters (i.e. German), improvement in this area would be much welcomed :)

videos not using whole screen

Posted on 2010-05-01 17:23 UTC by Wilson Ngai. Status: Under consideration

the n900 uses a 5:3 ratio screen, which is a ratio that is not normally used for videos. as a result, most videos will display with black bars at the top and bottom if the video is a 16:9 ratio, or on the sides of the video is 4:3 ratio.
