videos not using whole screen

the n900 uses a 5:3 ratio screen, which is a ratio that is not normally used for videos. as a result, most videos will display with black bars at the top and bottom if the video is a 16:9 ratio, or on the sides of the video is 4:3 ratio.

Solution #1: adding stretch/zoom functions

in symbian phones (n97/5800) and most portable media players (creative zen range, cowon range) with widescreen displays, you have a few scaling options with videos.

if the video's aspect ratio is not the same as the screen, you can stretch the image to fit the screen, or you can zoom in on a widescreen section of the video to display it as widescreen.

this way, its possible to take advantage of the high resolution large display of the n900.
