Option to delete all user data while flashing firmware.

The desktop flasher app should give the user an option to delete all user data and restore back to factory settings.  If the phone is ever sold or traded, sensitive information might fall into the wrong hands without this.

Undelete instead of Confirm Delete

The Hildon 2.2 UI Style Guidelines 12.2-3 state that editing should have an undo option, whereas deleting should require confirmation.

The fallacy of confirmation dialogues is well documented, for example To Confirm is Useless, to Undo Divine. Users simply develop a reflex of tapping confirm on each dialogue, and they become a mere annoyance without offering actual protection from unwanted actions.

A much better solution is for deletion to be undoable, and not require confirmation.

Implement a search-able, on-line help and documentation framework

There is one thing about MAEMO 5 that seems to be a really missing: there is no context help whatsoever on the device. Nor there is any hope for improvements because there is no official framework or directive regarding device or application documentation and help.

Improving the Alarmclock

Posted on 2009-11-01 22:42 UTC by Helmuth M.. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

I'm using my Mobiles as a Alarmclock in the morning... and every day I'm pressing 2 or 3 times the Sleep mode. At the N900 with the Touchscreen it is in my opinion to easy to turn it off early in the morning.

Edit:

Insight: We need a solution for every programm that unlocks the device itself.

So a another Brainstorm was created related to this. A common UI change is needed. Not only on application level. Please VOTE here.

Get Cryptography Average Joe Ready

Posted on 2009-11-16 11:15 UTC by Rüdiger Schiller. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Utilities, User Experience, System.

There is no GnuPG GPG PGP environment, no dm-crypt, no blowfish-button in file-context-menus and no GU interfaces ready to use for Joe Average!

There was already the question of securing private data.

What is the best way to get email/IM/file/addressbook de/encryption/signing to Joe and his friends.

Should it be part of all programs containing private data? Should there be a Privacy Manager Tool to manage keys keyrings, encrypted files, addressbooks and calendar entries?

Encrypting the whole filesystem is neither a solution for the private data nor for email. It slows down the system and drains the battery. On my Netbook its costs are about 1-2Watts, speed I dont realy recognize.
