UserSections

The Application Manager in OS2006 only lists those packages that belong to one of the user sections.

The full list of recommended sections is defined in the "Making an Applicaton Package HOWTO"

Here it is, repeated for your convenience:

* user/accessories
* user/communication
* user/games
* user/multimedia
* user/office
* user/other
* user/programming
* user/support
* user/themes
* user/tools

If you use one of these sections, it will be translated to the end user's native language. The translations will be capitalized (e.g. Accessories, Communication, etc.)

If your package doesn't fit any of those categories, try to choose one of these ad-hoc sections to avoid multiple different spellings of the same thing:

* user/Commandline -- for applications only accessible from the command line (xterm or ssh)
* user/Fonts -- self-explanatory
* user/Locales -- self-explanatory
* user/Daemons -- ???
* user/Protocols -- ???
* user/Utilities -- how is this different from tools???

Here's a list of other sections seen in the wild, with comments why I think these aren't good

* user/CLI -- same meaning as Commandline, but more difficult to understand
* user/Applications -- a bit too generic
* user/utils, user/utilities -- same as user/Utilites, but doesn't follow the conventions of other sections
* user/Extra -- why not use "other"?
* user/misc -- inconsistent capitalisation, also why not just use "other"?
* user/system-tools -- inconsistent capitalisation
* user/Tools -- different from the standard category, but looks the same in the user interface. Confusing!
