Real support in 770 VideoPlayer is quite equivalent to Linux RealPlayer10's, however there are some device specific constraints as 770 is an embedded device with limited amount of computational resource.

  • for input, Real video needs to be within CIF (352x288) resolution.
  • in general, Real rtsp streaming content should be below 128Kbps.
  • SMIL format is not supported (workaround will be explained below).

Here are some example use cases that might be of intereset.

BBC News

1 . open a browser window 2 . goto http://news.bbc.co.uk 3 . tap "WATCH BBC NEWS IN VIDEO" on the top right corner 4 . in the new window, tap "The news in 3 minutes" on the bottom right corner 5 . tap the video place holder in the main frame 6 . VideoPlayer starts automatically after 10 seconds or so

You could try the same scheme with BBC Sports too. You can also play BBC Radio and Comedy streams using Media Player.
Just click on the 'listen in standalone player' and it will open.

Yahoo Video Search

1 . open a browser window 2 . goto http://search.video.yahoo.com 3 . tap "advanced search" 4 . type something as keywords and choose only Real for Format 5 . tap the thumbnail you want to see, then tap "Play Video" 6 . tap "Open" in the File download diaglogue (you can save the ram file for your later convenience)

You could see from the file size if you are downloading just a link (typically *.ram, a few KB) or the content itself (typically *.rm).

Misc

  • use the browser bookmark efficiently to avoid unnecessary tapping and typing.
  • don't hesitate to save *.ram file as they are just links to streams without the media contents themselves.
  • SMIL files cannot be understood by 770 VP, but you can still try the rtsp links included in those SMIL files.
