These notes are kept for reference only. If you have participated in the BOF feel free to correct any mistakes in the notes according to what was discussed there, but please do not update or expand them. Check out DeveloperCommunity for an up-to-date, live view of current issues affecting the Maemo developer community.
Infrastructure
- A repository is needed for contributed packages not in Maemo
- During the BOF, the contrib repository was announced
Open development
- Core development done in public SVN
- Growing number of components maintained in https://stage.maemo.org/svn/maemo/projects
- Unstable distro
- Sardine distro: http://repository.maemo.org/sardine
- Not full Maemo scope: HAF, some connnectivity,...
- A stable distro is needed too
- Should be possible to build the whole Maemo in your laptop
- Separate Maemo Platform / Maemo Distro? Are they too tied?
- Maemo Core developers presence in public discussions, bugzilla
- Community Manager?
Components
- Audio Resource management
- GSmartMix? (SoC) - http://live.gnome.org/GSmartMix
- Infoprints != Tooltips. Good notification framework needed
- Alignment with other devices and Desktop
- Same mechanism, different policies
- At the level of freedesktop.org ?
- Power management
- Connectivity
- Session management
- (In)correctly themed stock icons. Bug filed?
Tools, configuration
- C++ compiler too old, currently CS 3.4
- Remote debugger would be good
- SDK not working well on beta (Philip). Bug filed?
- Whole device emulation would be great
- Unstripped build. Size doesn't help?
Documentation
- More and better documentation is needed
- Big picture. Software map, better starting points
- Roadmap. Expected component evolution
Scalability
- Generalize framework to cover more form factors. What starting point? Maemo, GNOME, scratch?
- Abstract HildonProgram / HildonWindow for different form factors
Embedded GNOME
- Regular IRC meetings for GNOME embedded community, inclusive, not just corporate
