Iphone as an external N900 controller

Posted on 2010-04-16 21:13 UTC by Zac Cassini. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

The idea is to use our old iphones as controllers for the N900.

It could act as a game controller.

It could be a media controller strapped to your steering wheel or handheld that would make for safer driving.

It could be used to control a gps app.

I am thinking it could have multiple modes.  Just a touchpad, just a keypad,  or a touchpad and keypad for the n900.

Specific modes where it acts as a ps3 controller for the n900, or a gui built specifically to control the media and gps apps of the n900.

Solution #1: bluetooth serial

One solution might be to create a gui on the iphone and send button presses to the n900 via bluetooth.

Solution #2: n900 hosts an ajax webpage

Posted on 2010-04-16 21:18 UTC by Zac Cassini.

I'm thinking the n900 could host a webpage that would display a gui for whatever use the user might need.

Clicking on a button (such as a down arrow) would have the n900 register this input.

I think this would maybe be slower than a bluetooth solution but would allow for new guis to be more easily created.
