Solution #1: "Mark as Unread" option

Posted on 2009-12-11 10:58 UTC by Rami Zalloum.

it happens that we receive an SMS and after we open we realize that it requires more attention than we can give at the moment, (angry girlfriend for example) it would be great if you can mark it as Unread such that we can come back to it later

Solution #2: "Send to calendar" feature

Posted on 2009-12-11 11:24 UTC by Rami Zalloum.

it would be great if you have an option for SMS that allows you to create a calendar entry from an SMS you recieved or a part of it

for instance you recieve a party notification or a meeting request from your boss, etc, it would be great to convert to a calendar entry on the spot without having to do so manually

Solution #3: "For follow up" flag

Posted on 2009-12-11 11:27 UTC by Rami Zalloum.

sometimes you recieve an SMS that requires a future action from you and you don't want to forget it, it would be great if you can have an email-like for follow up flag

Solution #5: Advanced search/filter

Posted on 2009-12-11 11:52 UTC by Rami Zalloum.

it would be great have the ability to filter SMS based on the following attributes

1- Date

2- Direction (in/out)

3- Recipient

4- Delivered/failed

5- Containing Text: (this might require a lot of processing, but if it's available under the restriction of having additional filters (e.g. the search field is activated only if certain Recipient is selected, or certain period is selected)

Solution #7: Send SMS direct from phone UI

Posted on 2009-12-12 22:40 UTC by Randall Arnold.

This functionality is mysteriously missing.  I want the ability, like S60 phones have, to select SMS or voice call to contacts while in the phone UI.  Granted, the feature is supported in the messenger, but I believe we should be able to activate that messenger app from the phone contacts list.

Solution #8: Allow retrieving existing SMS from other phones

Posted on 2009-12-13 20:35 UTC by Fred Pacquier.

At least Nokia phones, SYmbian phones, S60 phones ?...

The N900 Calendar makes it easy to retrieve an existing calendar from another phone (E71 in my case), directly through Bluetooth.

I could not find any way to do the same with the existing SMS on that phone, not even indirectly through PC Suite (which "does not fully support this device" :-).

I think this should be standard functionality, and easily accessible through Conversations.

Solution #9: Send to Group

Posted on 2009-12-15 14:52 UTC by Frank Banul.

Add the ability to define groups of SMS recipients and be able to send an SMS to the entire group. Also, the sent receipts should be combined into a group format as well. When sending to the group, only the group should show up in the sent list.

I want to see drafts folder and ability to make new folder to move your favourite sms to it .

Solution #11: Allow SMS-forwarding via e-mail and IM

Posted on 2009-12-17 14:25 UTC by Oskar Welzl.

When you open a single SMS and tap "forward", then select a contact, you can only choose from the contact's phone numbers. Maemo tries to offer an integrated messaging experience, so why not let us forward the SMS as an e-mail or an instant message? I can't think of anything that's in an SMS technically that IM/mail couldn't handle. It's plain text, isn't it?

Solution #12: Add option to disable simley icons

Posted on 2009-12-19 00:57 UTC by Dawid Lorenz.

Personally, I hate them as text-based smileys like :) :] :D etc. tell me instantly what the mood is, instead of wacky icons that I need to decipher myself first.

Anyway, there should be an option to disable these icons.

Solution #13: Make selecting SMS recipients easier

Posted on 2009-12-19 01:05 UTC by Dawid Lorenz.

Currently there is no way of selecting SMS recipient using only hardware keyboard, unless I know the number off top of my head. Pressing Return hardware key while having focus on 'To' field leads to a pointless new line being entered. To select a recipient there is a need to shift a finger from hardware keyboard to touchscreen and press 'To' button, which would bring up contacts list. Not very convenient.

I can see two sub-solutions to this:

1) (easy) Pressing Return key should have the same functionality as pressing 'To' onscreen button - so bringing up contacts list for quick (multi-)selection.

2) (hard) Typing contact name should automatically execute recipient selection in autocomplete/type-ahead fashion.

Solution #14: Disable or enable message threaded view

Posted on 2009-12-19 08:41 UTC by amer said.

threaded view sms (instant messaging) looks is very cool ,

its also a very good idea to have  option to switch between folder view and threaded view ,,,why?

becouse some of the messages aren't actually related together but they are from the same sender,

and some of the messages may content an bank pin number for example and u may want to access this message directly so u want to save it in customized folder created by your self

it will be like that

U have the inbox folder , out-box , sent-item , and draft with ability to create a new folder to sort some of the messages by your own, but in the inbox folder u got the option of having the messages sort by date or by sender witch is (threaded view)

Solution #16: The ability to schedule or delay SMS messages

Posted on 2009-12-22 01:22 UTC by William McBee.

The ability to schedule or delay a SMS message - whether it means using Calendar or expanding SMS - for those reminders to people, or yourself or to schedule a SMS message that can be sent later... with an alert that it did so.

Solution #17: Message Details

Posted on 2009-12-23 12:42 UTC by Sascha Makela.

Add the ability to see details of received and sent  messages. For example, if the contact has several numbers it would be beneficial to see from which number or to what number it was sent. On the messages you sent, it would be also nice to see when it was delivered, if it is still pending or delivery failed.

Solution #18: Phone numbers in SMS should be annotated with contact information

Posted on 2009-12-23 13:01 UTC by Thomas Perl.

If a SMS text contains a phone number, it would be helpful to know to which contact this number belongs (e.g. when the cell phone providers sends a "You received a call from [...] while your phone was switched off." SMS). Right now, there's no way of knowing which contact called you while the phone was off.

Solution #19: Way to show phone number (when receiving text from contact with more cell phone numbers)

Posted on 2009-12-24 11:16 UTC by Kasper Souren.

When receiving an SMS from a contact with several cell phone numbers it doesn't show from which phone number it was sent.  It should be easy to see the phone number (e.g. by hovering or simply by showing the phone number directly in a small font).

Solution #20: Mark Messages as favorites

Posted on 2010-01-12 02:59 UTC by jeremy gillespie.

Marking messages as unread is not a bad idea but could we have it where SMS messages are marked as "favorites" by applying a star to them - An example of this can be found in the email client thunderbird where emails can be flagged with a star.

If you could flag messages as favorites you would not lose track of them.

Solution #21: Add icon for SMS messages with a receipt

Posted on 2010-01-22 21:57 UTC by Alexios Chouchoulas.

SMS messages for which we're received a delivery receipt should be immediately obvious when viewing a conversation. Perhaps by adding a tick mark icon next to the timestamp. Currently, you get a notification when a text message is received, and you can see the delivery status if you tap on the message.

Solution #22: Ability to merge threads from same contact (ONLY IF YOU CHOOSE TO)

Posted on 2010-01-24 06:54 UTC by Khameinei Ali.

Right now when you have a friend with multiple messaging numbers or contact points for example google voice, g-chat, and regular mobile it shows them as different threads. I propose that the SMS software gives you an OPTION to merge threads from the same contact, so that you can keep them all in one window. If my friend messages me on their phone, then they get on gchat a few minutes later and they refer to something, I don't have to leave the window to hunt it down and understand what they were saying. I think this will work well because, you rarely have someone messaging you simultaneously from two different messaging services, unless you guys are just playing around. Even if they are, it is extremely unlikely if not nearly impossible to have your phone receive those messages at exactly the same time, so there will always be a proper chronological order regardless. Also, maybe even extend this feature to email? So that you can even see emails that they sent you in the chat window, just the headline and maybe a few lines of the beginning? I think it would really make the chat experience truly a one stop area. Furthermore, I think we should have an icon or maybe the number show up underneath their name indicating from what service/ number the message came. There are already different service symbols integrated, i.e. the skype symbol and g-chat symbol, also, maybe come up with a seperate symbol for google voice acounts?

This second part is the same as Misha K.'s #27. Can someone integrate the two? Receiving credit for my idea isn't the real issue. I just want the maximum votes for this.

As far as the replying goes, yes it may be a little difficult to come up with something less than slightly annoying. However, maybe have a second reply button next to the current one : "reply through". This button will allow you to choose which service you would like to send the reply through; skype, g-chat, regular sms, google voice. Also, we can change the hardware key function as well. Right now you just hit return/enter but maybe shift + return will pull up the "reply through" option.

Solution #23: Grouping Sms Contacts

Posted on 2010-02-16 12:37 UTC by Tom Weston.

I would like to group contacts in conversations and have a conversation with more than one person this could be used to a number of ways i.e business connections, planning things with friends. and if you could drag various contacts into a conversation already started this would be pretty cool.

also how about instant messenger intergration how about having facebook, msn or google talk conversations with that person in different colours, so all information is in 1 place and readable.

Solution #24: SMS Notification in Status Area

Posted on 2010-02-17 17:48 UTC by Garfield Arbuckle.

I am usually receiving e-mails all the time, and when I receive an SMS message it appears in a yellow box that is very similar to the e-mail notifications which I now simply dismiss without really looking at, so I can easily receive an SMS message and not realise.

I believe there should be an SMS notification icon in the Status Area for as long as there are unread SMS messages on the device. It's one thing to notify you that an SMS has arrived, but it's another thing to remind you that it's still there and hasn't been read yet. Most phones have this type of system whereby the icon will not disappear until the SMS has been read. The current notification system is too easy to dismiss with no further indications/reminders that the message still hasn't been read.

I would suggest that notification icons for unread IMs and e-mails should also be introduced, not just for SMS.

Solution #25: Different Colour Notification Boxes

Posted on 2010-02-17 17:53 UTC by Garfield Arbuckle.

I am receiving e-mails all the time and therefore assume that any notification I receive is another e-mail and I dismiss the yellow box without really looking. It's therefore quite easy for me to miss any incoming SMS (or IM for that matter) messages.

It would be a good idea if notifications for the different services were in different colours, e.g. e-mails in a yellow box, SMS notifications in a red box, and IMs in a green box.

Posted on 2010-02-21 12:36 UTC by Misha K..

As i have tweets and facebook conversations and sms's and there would be more. i think it shouldn't be messed up all together and first screen in conversations would show me folders as "Sms, Tweets, Facebook and All"so on with small icon of each one of them. i prefer to make extra click on choosing folder while to see everything in one list

Solution #27: Answer protocol chooser

Posted on 2010-02-21 12:40 UTC by Misha K..

It would be nice if i can click on protocol icon(at the input box the icon of facebook, twitter or sms) and choose with which one of them i want to answer. it can be usefull if your friend online and you got sms or opposite if he sent you facebook chat message and went offline and you want to answer by sending sms. Also in contact info i have info only for certain protocol while i merged that contact with others. it's kinda wrong

Solution #30: T9 input when adding numbers manually

Posted on 2010-11-23 11:03 UTC by Kris A..

Currently, if we want to enter recipient's phone number using virtual keyboard, we need to use the keyboard- style text entry. The phone should automatically change to T9 style input when we switch to enter the number. This feature will make it easier to send sms to people who are not in the contact list.

Solution #31: Multi Select and Delete inside a Conversation

Posted on 2011-03-03 10:54 UTC by Ramkumar Markandan.

Currently when you go into a conversation you can either clear a conversation or open the contact card, but you can not multi select and delete only the messages you want to delete, if you want to retain few messages from the contact, you need to select all the other messages in the conversation individually either by long press or short press and delete them one by one...

It will be a good idea and enhanced idea to have an option like conversations delete where an multi select action can be performed and deleted only the selected messages and retain the others which you wish to retain.
