conversation integration with calendar

Posted on 2009-09-21 22:04 UTC by thomas p. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

The calendar could be much improved. one crucial point of the calendar is that 'right now' it tells me what should i do, and what's going to happen next. it gives me the relevant information at the right time, but this is often just basic information about who, when and where. how could the calendar be developed to even better give you the relevant information at the right time

brainstorm discussion takes place here.

Solution #1: Create Link possibility to calendar entry for text in conversation

Posted on 2009-09-22 09:12 UTC by thomas p.

If you have an sms/IM discussion with someone, it should be possible to create a link between that point in the discussion and a specific appointment in the calendar. that way, when you're at the meeting, you'll have a direct link to the relevant information.

this could be done by tap 'n' hold the relevant item (sms or IM item), and then choose to link the item to a new or existing calendar item.

Solution #2: copy/paste is enough

Posted on 2009-09-30 19:46 UTC by thomas p.

it's simple to mark, copy and paste text. when you want to add relevant information to a calendar entry, just use copy and paste it into the calendar entry.

Solution #3: add highlighted text to calendar item

Posted on 2009-10-04 09:43 UTC by thomas p.

this would be more of a system-wide solution. when highlighting text in a conversation, or anywhere, the equivalent of a right-click should include an option to add the highlighted text as a note to an existing/new calendar item.

Solution #4: option to create new appointment from specific sms/IM

Posted on 2009-12-10 10:03 UTC by thomas p.

by tapping and holding a specific sms or instant message, an option to create a new calendar appointment should appear (create appointment along with the existing forward, delete, copy).

choosing create appointment would copy the sms/im text into a new appointment title field.

if implemented, it would automatically attach the contact in question to the new appointment.
