Call with Skype should have details

Posted on 2010-02-16 10:07 UTC by Markus Berchtold. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

If you have a skype account you can easely choose "Call with Skype".

Unfortunately unlike in regular phone numbers where (home), (work) and so is added this is missing in the "Call with Skype" buttons.

This means you have to cross check which number you actually want to call.

Snoozed alarm hard to see or stop

Posted on 2010-02-16 16:31 UTC by Ralph Bolton. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

SOFTWARE VERSION:
Maemo 5

EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
1. setup an alarm clock to ring at a pre-determined time
2. wait for that time for the alarm to go off
3. press the "snooze" button

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
the fact an alarm is in progress (although silenced) should be easily visible.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
the alarm popup disappears, the alarm application is not left in the background
and the home screen does not show anything different to any other time.

REPRODUCIBILITY:
always

Almost every other alarm clock I've ever had uses 'snooze' as a silencer but
leaves the alarm in progress. This makes it easy to stop a snoozed alarm, even
with sleepy eyes! At present, it takes 4-5 clicks to stop a snoozed alarm, when
it should probably only need a single finger push.

Firmware updates should have changelogs

Posted on 2010-02-17 19:09 UTC by Jack Tanner. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

Firmware updates can bring users benefits but also risks. An update can bring new functionality, but it can also disable existing functionality. The update process itself can go wrong and crash the device. Users need to be able to make informed choices about whether an update is worthwhile, but at present, the information needed for an informed choice is not easily available to end users.

Specifically, firmware updates come without changelogs. The only way to find out what's in an update is to read about other people's experiences, which can require wading through long discussion threads on talk.maemo.org.

fine tuning the touchscreen feedback

Posted on 2010-02-19 11:35 UTC by Michael Demetriou. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

the tactile touchscreen feedback is not communicating any information to the user other than if the user tapped the screen or not. Discuss if there could be ways that the tactile feedback be more useful to the user

Adaptive backlight time-out

Posted on 2010-02-19 12:40 UTC by Filip Hofer. Status: Under consideration, Categories: User Experience.

The idea of this brainstorm is to add an "automatic" option to the Backlight time-out menu in Display settings.

The backlight time-out could be set to automatic (e.g., between a minimal and maximal value).  If the user taps the screen (or uses the screen lock switch) to turn the backlight back on right after it dimmed automatically, the interval until the next auto-dimming should increase (e.g., double).  If the user does not attempt to bring the backlight back on, the next auto-dimming interval can be short (e.g., the minimal value can be utilized).
