Linux kernel updater (kernel power 2.6.28.10)

This package will flash the kernel image upon installation.

After the installation, you need to unplug the USB cable, completely shutdown your device, and boot again to activate the kernel.

For more details and help please visit http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power

If you want to deinstall this kernel to revert to the original Nokia kernel, you must run the "Deinstall kernel-power" application. Deinstallation in the Application Manager is not possible.

This custom kernel contains additional modules for IPv6, packet filtering, QoS, NAT, tunneling, kernel configuration, updated DSP driver, builtin ext3 for booting from other media, ext4, XFS, reiserfs, NTFS read support, ISO9660, UDF, CIFS, automounter, squashfs, unionfs, device mapper and dm-loop, cryptography, cryptoloop, EFI partitions, UTF8 codepages, mouse+joystick input, PPP, PPTP, radio RDS, serial support, USB/IP and generic USB device drivers, battery info, WLAN monitoring, overclocking, kexec and experimental USB hostmode support.

Warning: Overclocking voids your warranty, may damage your device and is at your own risk! Overclocking is disabled by default and can be configured during runtime.

I installed this application in order to overclock my N900, but when I reboot my device after successful installation, my device is unable to boot. The 5 white dots running back and forth till either the battery runs down or it turns off by itself. Have gone to several places to flash my device. The people I met have battled in vain to flash it. I cant use my device any longer. Can someone please help me out?

Hello everybody,

I would appreciate your help here. I recently upgraded kernel v47 with v48 by app manager, and now i see them both in multiboot. I upgraded the kernel after installing nitdroid and gingerbread on my N900. Yesterday, after i shut down my N900 from android, I chose power kernel v47 by mistake on multiboot and it gave me the great message "cannot flash kernel, press any key to panic". After I dove in dspear, i managed to boot my N900 using 2000 blasphemies per second. I understand that kernel v47 might not exist anymore since the upgrade. And i ask you, can i remove one entry from multiboot? -and how? Are the both still available for booting?

Thank you very much in advance.

I was having the same issue as divij chugh. Running Pr1.2 i had installed the power user kernel and it worked like a charm. Now i upgraded to Pr1.3 and wanted to reinstall the power user kernel put the standard installer prevents me from doing so, throwing an conflict with the following packages: kernel-modules-maemo kernel-maemo It turned out, that it is safe to override this problem by using the fast application manager fapman. or console

Hi! First thanks for your great kernel! I am porting nfs-kernel-server to Maemo. However nfs is not supported in the kernel. Maybe you could enable it in your kernel? Thank you!

Great to see the updates to the Wiki. I've just added a little bit about IPv6. MicroB DOES work with IPv6. You just need to change one of the settings.

The setting is 'network.dns.disableIPv6' in about:config. When set to false, IPv6 just works when the phone has IPv6 connectivity.

As an aside, I'm running IPv6 on my local network with a Linux server tunneling to Freenet6

@Liquidsunshine: yes, as mentioned in my previous comment. @Matthias R. Koch: it would be nice if you could describe your configuration on http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#IPv6 I don't use IPv6 (yet) so I can't comment on that. for kexec have a look at the wiki page.

Installed Kernel_Power thismorning (thanks to Aldon Hynes for the hint) and works flawlessly so far ... wanted it because of it's IPv6 support which works perfectly - I have a native IPv6 subnet terminated on monowall router/firewall handing out client IPv6 addresses to N900 through radvd.

N900's own MicroB browser obviously does not support IPv6 (sad enough for a brand new software) so I had to install Firefox Fennec which does a great job also on IPv6 webpages.

Thanks to the author - great job !

I am currently using version 37. I took a quick look at the Overclocking and the battery functionality, both of which seem to work fine, but don't do a lot for me. I don't have PPTP to deal with, so that isn't something I can play with.

However, I do have IPv6 on my home network. I'm curious about what sort of luck other people are having with IPv6. If I ping ::1, I have no problems. However, when I try to get out to the network, I can send about 6 to 9 packets and then I stop getting any responses. Anyone else having similar experiences?

One person said they were running aiccu quite nicely. Any one here with experiences with that?

A lot of the other options don't look like they will do much for me, but I am really interested in kexec. Has anyone had any interesting experiences with that? e.g. loading Mer or Meego?

This kernel is only for power-users that know Linux or are willing to read the documentation (e.g., wiki page). Please only install and vote if you belong to this group. Noobs should stick with the Nokia kernel.

Please note that I have no control about what is shown in the description in this page. Due to bug in maemo.org it shows the description of the latest experimental version and not of the stable one (v24). Please only comment on the stable (v24) or the future stable one (v34) on this page. Experimental versions in between are only for developers and only available from extras-devel.

Aside from v28, every version of this kernel(I used 23-27) has worked well on my device. I am now running version 34 and have had no unexpected results.

I don't understand why the author doesn't post instructions in the description, or at least link to it. Why rely on the comment section for that? Anyway, followed the instructions in http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power. The overclock went surprisingly easy! Now my phone works much smoother. Thank you! For the uninitiated: you're basically installing one app in the the App manager (provided you have previously installed rootssh) and entering a few command lines in the xterminal. Very simple. Took five min :)

for users who accidentally (??) installed this package: it will not overclock your device! You might not even notice that is installed except for possibly higher stability and some speed improvements. For quick deinstallation see http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#Deinstallation
