@daniele would you please promote this app?
Voted down for: 4. [ ] Working provided features. 5. [ ] No missing announced features. 7. [ ] No performance problems.
The application has only partial functionality for users unfamiliar with its unspecified restrictions. Without protection against these issues, there is the appearance to the user of failure of the application.
It is a gray area involving the three criteria above.
Solution may simply be more explication via an "about" or "Note" button in the app to do thing like state "guest" name login sometimes cannot work,IP addresses are more reliable than server names, etc., the N900 File Manager will have a long delay loading large file directories after attachment, etc.
Additional status messages could help also: "connected", "server name not found", etc.
Will not work with server name, only with IP address. Server name makes it crash to the desktop with no error message,
"guest" will not work as WM's mandatory Username for mounts that do not require a username. "None" works OK.
Browsing the mounted drive is best done with Filebox, not File Manager. File Manager takes a VERY long time before displaying the directory list, giving the impression that the phone has locked or that the share has not been mounted.
I understand that listing the mounted drive in /media is a Linux convention, but it limits Wizard Mounter's useability from the general user and only to N900 geeks who have installed root access. It would likely make it a more useable tool for the general user if they were mounted in a new directory in /home/user that could be browsed with an N900 off-the-shelf.

Is it possible to add "webdav" to the actual options "NFS" and "SAMBA"?
I use webdav a lot (also in secure mode) to share folders from my nas, over internet, seeing that folders ad net drive in windows xp, 7, etc.
it would be useful also on n900! i.e. for music and makes this software greater!!!!

I would say the maintainer should try to promote
As a test of my new dev box, I resubmitted the dependent kernel module in the correct section... So, what happens now ? Promote ? Retest ? Resubmit ? Call X-Fade ?
Hopefully the kernel module will get resubmitted shortly and then we can get this off the agenda as well :)
Okay this app cannot be promoted to extras, because a dependency http://maemo.org/packages/package_instance/view/fremantle_extras-testing_free_armel/kernel-module-cifs/1.55.0-maemo1/ was rejected.
Dear maintainer, why don't you promote or reject? Share your thoughts: http://maemo.org/community/brainstorm/view/many_tested_apps_in_extras-testing_are_not_promoted_timely/
Strongly agree with all points made by Uwe Kaminski. Unstable browsing of shares would not seem to be the fault of this application though? No way fit to promote from 'Testing' in it's current state.
Nice work. Tested with samba and seven. Folder navigation is slow but usable. I confirm the GUI problems reported by Uwe Kaminski. Bravo!
Cant get it to work, I put all the info in and when i try and mount the share i get the message:
" Load Bookmarks:
Load Paolo pc? "
i hit OK and the program closes, no share is visible either :(
Seems waiting 1minute(scales with amount of stuff inside folder) fixes the problem, however the same problem arises for each folder i go into. Might have to do with that the share is over the internet, going to try later with a closer share.
Can mount a cifs share, but the file manager freezes as soon as i open the share (i am able to see the top directory).
Thanks Daniele, that does solve it. Unfortunately I cannot change my karma now.
Hi Michael,
as I replayed to inidrog the problem is due to a not complete uninstall by the app-manager (I suppose). If you follow the three steps explained here you will resolve all of your problems.
Regards.
The new version is broken for me. I had several NFS shares and one Samba share that worked great until I updated. Now I get error messages like:
Ops! An error occured: Password:
(misspellings and all)
I just trying to re-styling the UI and, in the meanwhile, I will try to fix these little errors. Btw you should be able to mount NFS resources with wizard-mounter.
Regards.
I think some nice things could be done using this tool but it's not ready for daily use at the moment.
Is there anybody who was able to use NFS and if, how is that possible?
Ok, I will see how to implement your suggestion. Thank you.
Yes, it's probably not related to wizard-mounter.
One UI suggestion: I tried the quick mount option and I misspelled the password. The error message appeared and after clicking OK it returned to the main window, I had to enter all the details again instead of just correcting the password.
Hi Andrei,
strange behavior , but maybe it's not related to wizard-mounter. I think it could be the cifs module or maybe you can have some directory with strange name (I mean not well recognized by the file manager), are you in this latter case ?
It mounted successfully a Samba share but the File Manager crashes pretty often while browsing the mounted folder.
Thanks for the advices. Someone was already on my todo list , I will add the others.
Regards.
Now that it works as in my earlier test i wish for:
The names representing the share mounts should not be like this in the file browser; d%24%40192.168.1.20 and share%40192.168.1.20 but d$ @ 192.168.1.20 or similar for the last one share - 192.168.1.20
Using a profile or bookmark there should be an option for a prompt for password. Security.
The Umount should present a list of mounts with check boxes so W-M just did not unmount * with no warning.
Just my wishes, but i can live with what it is now :)

Hi,
try the following steps: 1. uninstall wizard-mouinter from the app-manager 2. open up the terminal and execute : dpkg --purge wizard-mounter 3. re-install wizard-mounter normally
Let me know if it works now.
Regards. ""
Thanks as long as sudo gainroot is used first, your solution worked. It works and my experience is exactly as described here.

Hi i really like this tool.
My first test of the tool was nice and worked as you can read here (installed from Devel) http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=526414&postcount=64
Now after upgrading to this version, testing, uninstalling, reinstalling and testing. No matter what i do i get "[mount] Ops! An error occured : Password"
Testing against same ip/share/user as in earlier test.
Help :)
