A single desktop widget to issue a lot of tv shutdown IR commands.
You can choose your preferred region in the settings dialog.
Add it to one of your desktops using Desktop menu > Add widget.

I can confirm desktop hang, maybe it is better to withdraw that from -testing back to -devel.
Intermittently causes desktop to hang, recommend users to replace with pierogi package

Fun app. shame the IR on the n900 is so weak though.
Now to turn the football off at the pub :)
chem|st mentioned in IRC, that he has had very bad experiences with the python-hildon-plugin stuff and e.g. eats up all of the RAM. Maybe it would be the best to just port the code to C and avoid all that uncontrollable side-conditions.

No IR apps installed here, except for yours; and yes, all the python packages this app depends on had already been installed previously.
Did you have python installed before trying out the tvbgone applet?
Do you have any other packages installed that make use of the IR led?
I'd be glad about an answer to that. I just tried it again and it works for me...

same problem here, after the installation process all the desktop was unresponsive, icons didn't work and the desktop menu didn't open up.
A reboot solved the problem. Unfortunately I don't have a solution, I'll study it.
Sorry about that, I did not see something like this here. Maybe the python plugin intall process is a bit fiddely for the desktop applets. Not sure what to do differently though.
It made my whole desktop unresponding until I rebooted.
