The initial DB creation takes a long, time on my device the task launcher however did not ask to kill the application.

Remove /home/user/.midgard2/data/maecalories.db and try again. (I'm thinking of shipping with pre-initialized db since the initialization really takes too long)
App doesn't work, it hangs during the initial creation of the database and, after killing it, during every startup of the app it says that I've hit bug #1409 of Midgard, and it closes itself.
