Comments:
@Harald: well... Vagalume does exactly the same and not only is in Maemo Extras, it was regarded also as a "Fremantle Star". (The only difference is that it uses C/Gtk and I use C++/Qt). Why should I be discriminated? I'm not forcing anyone to use this application of course, but it's not my fault if the Last.fm license is (at the moment) so resctrictive.
By the way... in some screenshot I've clearly seen that there is a Last.fm client (actually a widget) available for MeeGo handled UX: should I think that there is a particular agreement between Last.fm and MeeGo and third party developers are excluded to create something similar? That would be so bad!
I installed your app and can say that it is optified and starts on a N900. If I do understand you right, that is all a user is allowed to do without breaking a license? So how should I test? Given this, do you think this app should go to Extras(I don't think so)?
It would be useless, because with the new API you need to be subscribed even if you live in USA, UK or Germany. If you live in those countries and you don't want to pay you have to use their client not a third party one :\
OK... I guess I checked what I could. OTOH it would be nice if you would detect country settings and flash a friendly warning banner and/or note the paid subscription/country requirement in the package description.
@Attila
1) About the error: you need to have a paid subscription to be able to listen to the radio (Vagalume works even without a subscription, because it supports also the OLD Api protocol, but I cannot use it since there is not documentation anymore available)
2) About the mobile phones restrictions, please read the yellow box here: http://www.lastfm.it/api/radio
Started in scratchbox so it's completely legal ;) but get the error: The Webservices API key supplied does not have permission to stream. Hm. BTW where does it say it's illegal for mobile use ? I took a gander at
http://www.last.fm/api/tos
and grepped for mobile and phone and had no hits...
Note: since it's not allowed to use Last.fm API from a mobile phone (due to API license restrictions) I cannot distribute a valid api key with the application. I'm writing this software mainly to learn C++ and Qt and for the future tablets and netbooks that will be based on MeeGo. If you feel to assume the responsability, you can download the api key file and import it using "Import Api Key" that you can find in the application menu.
@Attila: please read notes http://www.andreagrandi.it/2010/07/16/announcing-lastgo-maemomeego-client-for-last-fm/
I can't use last.fm but... I don't understand why everyone needs an API key ? Shouldn't there be one key for the app and peoplejust enter their user/pass-es ?
