Comments:
After installing this package, the dependent library and the extras, I find that it fails to start. The program loads a black screen with the working symbol on the toolbar busy, but after more than several minutes nothing happens and the program terminates when going back into the multitasking manager. I'm not sure whats causing this.
After the fixes from ver4=>ver5 can't find anything to really complain about. To me functionality seems to match the one on Linux desktops considering the limitations of smaller screen.
I agree that the KanjiPad button is kinda confusing, but it does the same thing on my desktop (no KanjiPad installed, it is a separate program :). I've never really had any use for it.
Thank you again Timothy =)
Basic functions seem to work fine. Many thanks to Timothy for the work of updating from the N810 version.
Package seems to be well optified. One quick measure shows total non-opt usage as 184.00K
Be aware that the current lack of a CJK input method somewhat limits the use of this package at present. CJK input (from a different source) is on its way but not here yet. For now, there are web sites that allow you to compose, then copy-paste your Japanese into Gjiten: http://ajaxime.chasen.org/ http://sumibi.org/?long=1
Programming Notes: KanjiPad seems to be missing. Will it be restored in a later version?
The statement that it "requires dictionary files from gjiten-dics to function" seems puzzling since it seems to work fine when only this package is installed.
Could we have some clarification regarding the need for the other two dictionary packages? And a fuller explanation here (or on a directly linked page) of what is in gjiten-dics and gjiten-dics-extra and why we do or don't need one or both of them.
In WordDict without extra dictionaries installed, clicking on the button labeled "English-main" goes to a black screen with a blue bar at the top (scary the first time). Clicking the black block does nothing. Clicking the blue bar restores the main screen.
It would be a nice touch if the MagnifyingGlass, Book, and KanjiPad icons were just to the right of the "X" in WordDict like they are in KanjiDict. That would be make it easier to hit them quickly. As it is, they jump back and forth between the two modules because of the appearance of the left and right arrows in WordDict. This forces you to look carefully before hitting the one you want instead of becoming accustomed to their position and hitting them quickly. Or put the arrows into KanjiDict (where they would also be useful) so the icon panels were the same.
Bottom line: Recommended. The utility the package provides far outweighs these quibbles.
