I can confirm I just started getting this again, and the remedy described in the bug report (editing the gconf setting for the current contacts view) gets contacts working again. Yay!

Jamie's observation (crash) confirmed here: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11536

reproducable crash with only this plugin installed:

  • open contacts application
  • tap the titlebar
  • change view mode to "last" (rightmost button)
  • reboot device

contacts app crashes every time you try.

Reset view mode with gconftool:

gconftool -s /apps/osso-addressbook/ contacts-mode 0 -t int

...and now it's managed to start crashing the same as before. Endless loop of contacts crashing, restarting, and crashing again.

If I uninstall extended-contacts-search, the crashes stop.

If I uninstall both extended-contacts-search and contacts-merger then install extended-contacts-search, it still crashes, suggesting it's not multiple-plugin-related.

If it affects things, I have the extra protocol plugins installed as well.

Ok, got it working by purging the package and reinstalling. Suggests that it doesn't handle bad configs well. I was upgrading from a working previous version, btw.

I didn't change the code at all, so the crasher can't be new. However I remember people complaining about Contacts crash with some other plugins.

About the need of a reboot to get the plugin working, you only need to kill osso-addressbook process. The postinst script of the package is supposed to be doing that, but it does not seems to work properly, I'll try to fix that in a future release.

Ok, I believe it to be this version of this package that's at fault as this bug started after I upgraded to it, and removing the package makes everything work.

I have the duplicate contacts finder installed as well, if that's relevant.

Can't reproduce bug mentioned as well.

Can't reproduce Jamie's bug. App works perfectly for me, no crashes here.
