The problem with the salut account showing your ovi account is a problem with rtcom-accounts-ui. It assumes there is a "account" parameter on every account, but link-local XMPP accounts obviously don't need one.

I don't have an N900 anymore so can't test this. As a result, saying "it doesn't work", is simply useless.

This worked for me for a while, but now it always fails to connect, just causing the green presence circle to flash on and off.

And for some reason it lists the salut (people nearby) account as "murrayc@ovi.com", though Ovi should have something to do with it. I do have an ovi account configured, so I guess it's confused. I'd like to file these bugs if I knew where.

Got it working fine. I've got avahi-daemon installed and running (I have to start it up manually after every boot); haven't tried without it.

One of the dependencies (liblongcat0) is not available in extras-testing, only in extras-devel, which could explain why some people could not get it to install.

Also, why are we testing 0.2 when 0.3 is already in the -devel repo?

Need to be optified (~2mb) and the bug tracker field should be added to the package as well.

Actually, where am I meant to file bugs about this, and how are users generally meant to discover where to file bugs for applications?

I don't see any bug link here: http://maemo.org/packages/package_instance/view/fremantle_extras-testing_free_armel/account-plugin-salut/0.2/

Alan, it worked for me without any manual restarting of anything. Have you filed a bug about that?

Avahi-daemon must be started manually in order for this to work. And even then, it only works sometimes. You will appear online to other users, but they cannot connect to you (contact offline).

Using XB-Maemo-Display-Name would be a good idea. Documentation about it seems to have vanished so I'll give a link to an old blog post
