Mappero 3.0+alpha4
Geographical mapping and driving directions.
Specifically designed for the Maemo platform and the Nokia 900 form factor.
It includes support for visualizing GPS input, but is functional and useful
without GPS hardware. It also includes features for downloading and
interacting with maps, GPX data (including driving directions), and other
geo-related information. It focuses in part on in-car navigation and

Oh it was also failing to load any map graphics (open street maps) so perhaps it was a thread stuck waiting for map data?
Not sure what triggered it but I closed maemo mapper earlier with GPS and tracking turned on. It closed the window but kept running with location active in the background. I had to kill it from the console.
