Referendum about Maemo Community Council rules amendment

The first of the series is a referendum on the rules surrounding the election and nature of the Maemo Community Council. You are encouraged to read more about this and why council hopes you will have no objections to vote "yes."

Shortly after this, there will be additional elections, including the election of the next Maemo Community Council. Due to special circumstances things around election details might change on short notice, so please check back on those wikipages for possible last-minute changes. We need to accomplish some difficult tasks around Hildon Foundation during this election, that's why elections have to serve for more than the usual purposes this time.

We understand that this creates some inconvenience for the community, we ask you however to please support your council and actually use your right to vote, nevertheless.

For installation you need to have either VMWare environment like VMWare Player 3.0 or 2.5 (2.5 recommended as first 3.x versions have problems maintaining ssh connections), VirtualBox 3.x environment (PUEL version as open source version does not support USB well enough) or QEMU environment (KQEMU accelerator recommended) installed and configured for your computer. For Maemo SDK Virtual Image installation you need to have 7-Zip uncompression tool because standard command line zip tools are not able to handle archives bigger than about 2GB (with zip compression archive size is bigger than 2GB).

Short description

The Maemo Flasher-3.5 Tool is a command line utility that supports flashing of N900 device with Fremantle 5.x platform releases and N800, N810 and N810 WiMAX devices with Diablo 4.1.x platform releases. Notice that older Maemo devices (like Nokia 770) and older Maemo platform releases (like Chinook) may require a specific Flasher Tool.

Maemo Flasher-3.5 Tool is targeted for Maemo developer usage but also technology oriented end users of Maemo devices can use it if complexity of tool and command line user interface is not a problem for them.

Flasher-3.5 Tool is run from a Linux, Windows or Mac host computer as command line tool, and it will send data and commands to the connected Maemo device over USB. Command line parameters supported by Flasher-3.5 Tool together with some usage examples are documented in Help.txt file available from installation packages. Flasher-3.5 binary gives also command line help if it is run without any parameter or with "--set-rd-flags" or "--clear-rd-flags" parameters.

Installation

The Maemo Flasher-3.5 Tool should be installed from the installation package provided for Linuxes, Windows and Mac OS X.

Installation of Maemo Flasher-3.5 requires administration rights in all supported operating systems.
