I have a series of accounts accessible via sftp.

and dropping them from machine to machine.

Is this possible from my Nokia as well?

Drag and drop in general is not possible if I remember correctly.

For FTP there is 3rd party software available, e.g. ncftp or MaemoFTP.
The gFTP port seems to be dead.

I haven't tried this myself but have you used fuse & sshfs (which are both
in extras to my knowledge) to mount your share under some folder in /media?
To my knowledge, stuff mounted in /media shows up in File Manager. If not
/media, /mnt/whatever.

Faheem

Faheem has been working in the port of Gftp, and it's available in the
extras-devel repository at the moment ;)
It will be promoted to Extras when it has been tested hardly. Hopefully
next week.
