GNU grep, egrep and fgrep
'grep' is a utility to search for text in files; it can be used from the command line or in scripts. Even if you don't want to use it, other packages on your system probably will.
The GNU family of grep utilities may be the "fastest grep in the west". GNU grep is based on a fast lazy-state deterministic matcher (about twice as fast as stock Unix egrep) hybridized with a Boyer-Moore-Gosper search for a fixed string that eliminates impossible text from being considered by the full regexp matcher without necessarily having to look at every character. The result is typically many times faster than Unix grep or egrep. (Regular expressions containing backreferencing will run more slowly, however.)
Due to conflicts with busybox and SDK, all binaries are stored in /usr/bin/gnu, which could be added to $PATH, or can be called with a 'g' prefix, e.g., 'ggrep' for grep.

a word trainer with more than 150 ready made vocabularies
Querymee allows you to train languages and to memorize things.
At the moment just multiple choice is supported, but so called flash card learning is planned (looking for developers).
As main file format KDEs kvtml format is used (a XML format), so you can easily edit and create your own files with Parley (http://edu.kde.org/parley/), KWordQuiz (http://edu.kde.org/kwordquiz/) or WordQuiz for Windows and Mac OS X (http://peterandlinda.com/wordquiz/).
Additionally the following file formats are supported (read only):
.voc files from http://www.vokabeln.de/v1/download.htm
.tsv files (Tab Separated Values) created with openoffice.org calc, excel or any text editor. See help for details.
Save your own or downloaded kvtml, voc or tsv files under /home/user/MyDocs/Querymee in your N900.
You can use ready made kvtml files from the KDE project (more than 150 are available), just download the files with the build in download dialog.

The SMSCON Editor is a user interface to assist in the initialisation, configuration and testing of SMSCON.
With its assistance the user is able to edit from a GUI all the options and name the secret pass-phrases of the commands used by the SMSCON for controlling the device. In addition, it provides an interface to initialise (i.e. init, start, stop, reset and set/remove from the device's boot sequence) and test the functionality of the smscon_daemon.
